LCSO Announces 35th Women's Self-Defense Workshop


The Loudoun Sheriff's Office will hold their 35th Women's Self-Defense Workshop on Tuesday, April 26, 2011.

The class is open to all female residents of Loudoun County over the age of fourteen and space is limited to 100 participants.

"The workshop is a free session whose purpose is to educate women on sexual assault issues and rape awareness," said Sheriff Steve Simpson. "The April session is an opportunity for all women to learn to be aware of their surroundings and how to protect themselves from becoming a victim," Simpson added.

The session will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Academy on Tuesday, April 26, 2011. The academy is located at 45299 Research Place in Ashburn, VA.

Participants are asked to wear gym style clothing and athletic shoes. Participants will be taught basic self-defense techniques through instruction, demonstration and actual practice of the methods taught.

Those interested in participating in this workshop must register, as space is limited.

In an effort to keep citizens better informed about crime, the Sheriff's Office has implemented a monthly Neighborhood Watch Newsletter. This newsletter includes safety and security tips relevant for the month and the time of year. It also includes information on recent crimes and crime trends in the county. The newsletter will also detail educational crime prevention training events that are open to the public. Recycling Bin Pickup

On March 3rd, American Recycling distributed new recycling bins to all homes.  If you would like to return your old bins to American, they will be picked up on the next two Fridays, March 25th and April 1st.  This return is strictly optional.


Loudoun County Reverse 911

Loudoun County has upgraded its Reverse 911® system to make it even easier to alert residents during emergency situations by allowing citizens to register their cell phones.

Since 2005, Loudoun County has utilized the Reverse 911® system which has the capability to send a recorded message to homes and businesses on local phone landlines, providing pertinent safety information or instructions. Since the system went online in Loudoun County, it has been used for flash flood information, incidents involving hazardous materials, missing person notifications and more.

Because of the increasing popularity and usage of cell phones, Loudoun County is including wireless device numbers in the Reverse 911® database, to reach more people than ever. To register a cell phone, citizens can log on to The information will not be shared for any other purpose.
